God of love, we thank you for your presence with us on our transition journey. We pray for our parish family, that we may be full of love in our self-reflection, full of imagination in our aspirations, full of patience in our discernment, and full of faith at each step that we take. In a time of uncertainty, we rest in your eternal changelessness and boundless love. In Jesus Name we pray.
The Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania seeks a Dean and Rector for our vibrant and mission-focused community. We seek a Dean and Rector who is experienced and enthusiastic in leading a large multi-generational congregation in a medium-sized city environment. The Dean and Rector will provide support for, and be supported by, a diverse and talented staff of 13 clergy and lay persons including a Canon Missioner, Director of Administration & Finance, and Canon for Ministry of Music, as well as an engaged Vestry. Rich in history and tradition, Nativity was founded in 1862. The Cathedral building itself is a jewel in South Bethlehem. Worship life is beautifully expressed through a variety of liturgical approaches, including family services, Celtic-influenced experiences, Spanish language, healing services, and Eucharist Rite II. The music ministry and concerts are integral to the parish and community. We are currently engaged in implementing a new master plan for our campus after a successful 3 million dollar capital campaign and in growing relationships with our community. We seek a Priest who is thoughtful, context-sensitive, and supportive of our staff and lay ministry. This is a great opportunity for a gifted Priest to continue expanding our congregation and mission into the future.
Interested candidates may contact Melinda Artman, Northern Canon Missioner, Diocese of Bethlehem
What is the Dean & Rector Search Process?
The search process is the transition time before we prayerfully discern and call the next Dean & Rector. During this time, the congregation reflects on its priorities and values to determine the qualities we are looking for in our next leader. Candidates will then be screened and interviewed to determine the right person for this position.
How is the search committee gathering feedback from parishioners?
Six listening sessions (in-person and virtual) were held. Small group sessions also were held with various Nativity ministries. A survey also appeared in the bulletin and was mailed to parishioners. Please see a summary of parishioner responses HERE.
What is the Parish Profile?
The Parish Profile is a summary of who we are as a parish and what we are looking for in the next Dean. The parish profile will be posted on the Dean Search page once completed.
What is the typical timeline for a search process?
We anticipate that our search process will last between 12 and 15 months. Our tentative timeline is below:
